music from youngsters

direction by joshua carro


over the period of a week

i had the chance to teach

electro-acoustic composition

for two separate classes. i did

my best to lead the class with their

ideas and curiosities.


the classes were built of middle

school children with bright and curious

minds. free from construct, free from

authority, and ready for something new.

all of the works try to display a play on pitch,

rhythm, timbre, time duration, sound manipulation,

and overall form.


free to express themselves to the fullest

through the landscape of sound, they had

found something new and open with the

medium of sound. with this came

many pleasant sunrises of full and

broad reaching sound works that

profoundly show the power of sound

in the hands of our youth.


i have to express my deepest and utmost

humility for the chance to have lead such

a rare musical situation. the children had

an amazing experience and we all were

able to explore music on a similar plane

of understanding. therefore, one of the

most profound musical education experiences

of my life thus far.
